The preliminary intake helps the firm understand the general issue, identify deadlines, and begin a conflict check. It does not provide legal advice and does not create an attorney-client relationship.

The firm cannot discuss the substance of a matter until it knows who else is involved, because a conflict check has to run first. That is why the intake form asks for names.
A short description of what happened, in order
The names of every other person, business, or organisation involved
Any date that is fixed, such as a hearing, a filing deadline, or a date to sign or respond
Any letter, notice, contract, or court paper you have received
Please do not send documents yet
Do not attach or post documents, account numbers, medical records, or privileged material until the firm has completed a conflict check and specifically asked for them. Material sent before then may not be protected and may prevent the firm from acting for you.

Preliminary review
Authorised firm personnel review the names, the issue, and any deadline information you provided.

Conflict and fit check
The firm determines whether it can discuss the matter further and what kind of introductory discussion is appropriate.

Written engagement if accepted
No representation begins unless the firm confirms acceptance and the attorney and client sign a written engagement agreement.
What contacting the firm does not do
Making contact does not create an attorney-client relationship, does not mean the firm has accepted your matter, does not guarantee a response within any particular time, and does not protect or extend any deadline. If a date is approaching and you cannot reach the firm, contact another attorney promptly.
